A spreadsheet is a genuinely good tool, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you track one or two programmes, do not care about forward projections, and enjoy the formula work, a well-built tracker tab is hard to beat. It costs nothing, every column does exactly what you told it to, the file lives wherever you want, and no third party ever sees your balances. There is a real craft to a clean tracker, and many disciplined travellers run one for years without issue. The trouble starts with maintenance and change. Every programme has its own earning rates, tier thresholds, and qualification windows, and those rules move; British Airways Executive Club, Delta, and Flying Blue have all reworked how status is earned, and when they do, a formula written for last year's rules keeps producing a confident, wrong answer until you notice and rebuild it by hand.
